Classroom Spinner — Pick a Student at Random
A classroom-friendly spinner. Add your student list once, hide absentees, spin without favourites or accidental patterns.
The Classroom Spinner is a teacher tool: visible, fair, and quiet enough to use during a lesson. Add your students once, hide the absentees of the day, and use Elimination mode if you want every student to be picked exactly once during the activity. The pastel theme is gentle on classroom projectors, and the spin is short enough not to derail the rhythm of the lesson.
How to use it
- Add your student names once (List mode is fastest for a class list).
- Hide today’s absentees in Cards mode so they don’t get called.
- Switch to Elimination so each student is picked exactly once.
- Bookmark the URL — your roster is in there, no account needed.
Use cases
- Calling on a student for a question without favouritism patterns.
- Picking the order students present in a workshop activity.
- Choosing pairs by spinning twice (first student picks partner).
- Selecting who leads the warm-up activity each morning.
- Random reading-aloud rotation in literacy class.
- Drawing a class job (whiteboard cleaner, plant-waterer, etc.).
Frequently asked questions
How do I add my whole class roster?
Paste names one per line in the List tab — supports up to 200. The URL updates automatically, so bookmark it and the wheel reopens with the same roster next time.
How do I handle absent students?
Switch to Cards mode and click the eye icon next to each absent student. The wheel re-renders without them and probabilities re-balance. Click the eye again when they’re back.
Can I make sure every student is called once?
Yes — switch the mode tab to Elimination. Once a student is picked their name stays muted until you press Reset, so the wheel cycles through everyone before repeating.
Does this work on a school projector?
Yes — the wheel scales to the projector resolution and the pastel theme is gentle on classroom screens. Use the URL bookmark on the teacher’s machine so it opens instantly.
Is student data sent to a server?
No. Everything runs in the browser and the names live in the URL only. Nothing is stored on Spingiro — the URL is your data, not ours.
